BIO
Constance Chabrières sculpts mobiles and stabiles, functional art objects for daily use. Curious and eclectic, she explores ways to repurpose, recycle, and transform materials while twisting our perception.
Her life is balanced between two main activities: humanitarian aid/education on one side, and artistic expression on the other. Group living alternates with the solitude of the studio. Expatriation follows periods of life in France.
Each year, she donates part of her work to raise funds for causes that are important to her, such as the Téléthon, the Food Bank, children in pediatric oncology wards, and services for premature babies.
After earning a master's degree in child psychology, she went to Thailand in 1992 for her first humanitarian mission, which lasted twelve months. Later, between 1998 and 2002, she coordinated early childhood aid programs with UNICEF, first in Sri Lanka (for two years) and then at the West and Central Africa Regional Office (for one year). After her mission in Afghanistan in 2003, she embarked on her sculpture journey, starting in 2004 in Paris. She was represented by the Géraldine Banier Gallery (Paris) from 2004 to 2010.
In 2009, she was invited by P. Payen Appenzeller to participate in the first biennale of monumental sculptures at the Church of La Madeleine, in the center of Paris.
From 2010 to 2020, Constance Chabrières continued her career, expanding her market in the United States where she lived. She was represented by Aerena Gallery (Napa Valley) until her return to France in 2020. In 2012, she exhibited at the World Bank. In 2016, she was invited to join a group show in Soho, NYC, USA. In 2018, she sculpted a big representation of Luther to commerate his 500 anniversary, at the French Embassy, in Washington DC.
Since 2005, Constance Chabrières has been a member of the association Sur Un Lit de Couleurs, which opens and manages art studios in hospital wards in France. She has also been a member of Jeux de Dames since 2020, an association that showcases artists and artisans from Fontainebleau and its surroundings. For over a year, she was a member of the Santé Arts association, for whom she also wrote articles for the eponymous monthly magazine.
Constance Chabrières’ work can be seen at her studio in Montigny-sur-Loing (77), France.
